JAKE KUHL
For New York State 82nd Assembly District

A real candidate that is here for you!
Hi, I’m Jake Kuhl
I was born and raised in the 82nd Assembly District and currently live in the Edgewater Park, Throggs Neck section of the Bronx. I grew up in a middle class family, son of a teamsters truck driver and a New York City school aide.
I attended local public schools P.S.72 and I.S. 192 before attending Cardinal Spellman High School and then going on to obtain my Bachelors and Masters of Public Administration Degree at Baruch College in New York City.
I have been employed at Albert Einstein College of Medicine for fifteen years, where I currently work as the Assistant Director of the Falk Recreation Center. Throughout the years I have worked with countless individuals, improving health outcomes and creating engaging programs for the medical students at Albert Einstein.
My passion for improving the lives of others has led me to decide to run for New York State Assembly.
POLICIES
A strong middle class is what makes a society great. Unfortunately, in New York City it is under attack from the high cost of living in every direction.
I have seen friends and family leave New York because the cost of living is too high. Homes are too expensive, rent is too expensive and let's not get started on greedy Con Edison and insurance companies.
Our district has some of the highest Con Edison delivery rates in the city while the CEO made over $14 million dollars in 2024.
As your assemblymen I will advocate for laws to change the New York State Public Service Commission, the agency responsible for Con Edison oversight.
In addition I will advocate for more oversight over insurance agencies, whether they be auto, home, or healthcare, which continually take advantage of working New Yorkers while setting record profits.
A safe clean community is integral to a thriving neighborhood. I have personally lost friends to the fentanyl crisis, I will make sure the NYPD has funding to focus on drug distribution of opioid class drugs.
Many of you have noticed that store shelves at CVS are locked up due to thefts, this is unacceptable. No one should have to ring a bell to get deodorant.
New York’s State cash bail reform is an impactful law in reducing unnecessary jail time to non violent offenders. Unfortunately, there are repeat offenders of theft and property crimes that are able to abuse the law and create the environment of “locked up “convenience stores.
I propose a fool me once shame on you fool, me twice shame on me law, which will ensure that first time offenders of property laws will not face time jail time but there second offense will. This is an equitable amendment to the cash bail reform law, which will help public safety and commerce while preventing discriminatory bail practices of the past.
We live in a very polarized political environment but I think we can agree that our health is our number one priority and after that it's probably about money. Unfortunately, our school system does nothing to give us an understanding of how to be healthy or how to build wealth or even balance a budget.
Even worse, school lunches still lack real nutritional value and are often frozen and processed. Physical education is also put on the back burner, even though childhood obesity continues to rise.
I propose mandatory health and nutrition courses as well as a financial literacy course with a required test to graduate high school. Today's generation faces high student loans, excessive mortgage rates and uncertain retirement pension systems.
It’s important we teach them the value of budgeting, saving and investing. Currently we are failing to prepare our children for the real world, thereby planning for them to fail. We can change this and set them on a path for proper health and wealth decisions.
Home ownership is a cornerstone of the American dream. It is the main way we pass on wealth to future generations and helps ensure a safer and close-knit neighborhood. With new development projects in New York City home ownership is often an afterthought, new development focuses exclusively on apartments for rent, often with rents too high for the locals.
Any new development in our district should prioritize home ownership, this can be achieved through cooperative buildings. Living in a Co-op area myself, I know this is the only way I can afford home ownership in the area.
I will also advocate for the creation of a New York State Bank that lends exclusively to middle income New Yorkers looking to purchase first time homes in New York, with reduced interest rates around 3% for qualified buyers. This will save thousands of dollars for hard working New Yorkers.
I will also push for legislation that prohibits investment firms from purchasing single family homes. These homes are the bedrock of our community, not a piggy bank that Black Rock and other multibillion dollar firms will use to milk average people dry.
WHY VOTE FOR ME?
Our district deserves new leadership and fresh ideas. We have had the same assemblyman for over twenty years, and he is about to turn 80 years old.
He has chaired the education committee but has failed to improve education outcomes, most importantly our students continue to lack health and financial education. My policies will change this.
Cost of living continues to increase and our district faces some of the highest Con Edison service charges in the city. This needs to change.
As your assemblyman I will always put my constituents first in every proposed piece of legislation.
